Pick Selinger Over Ashton
You might recall that I wrote about Steve Ashton, the would be Premier of Manitoba a while back here, and here. In those blog posts, I was largely quoting other periodicals, though I had my own opinions on it. He had presented a half baked idea that was particularly odious to all of those who value free speech. That he might make it as Premier of one of our provinces was a most challenging thought.
The good news, I hope, is that the people of the Manitoba NDP party picked Greg Selinger to be their party leader, and new Premier today. He slipped by Mr. Ashton with a margin of 1,317 votes to 685 votes, the largest margin of victory in 35 years.
That is particularly good news if Mr. Ashton's idea, for his made in the UK so called (in)Dignity Act never sees the light of day. One can only hope that Mr. Selinger has no thought of giving this idea credence. As for Mr. Ashton, who hails from the northern reaches of Manitoba, we can be charitable to him and the life that he was raised in, and particularly the brain freeze that he must have live with all his life.
